Peltaco Oy was founded in 1986 , when its operations focused on the sale and maintenance of fire extinguishers, personal protective equipment, and fire alarms. The steady growth of the company's operations has been advanced by close cooperation with its clients, the expertise of its personnel, innovativeness, and market leadership, which has also contributed to the widening of its selection of products and services. In twenty years, Peltaco Oy has grown from a locally-operating fire safety equipment and extinguisher maintenance provider into a national expert in fire and rescue equipment, personal protective equipment, extinguishers, and smoke vents. In addition, the company's selection includes first aid, civic defence, and leisure equipment, and provision of hot-work training. Peltaco Oy's import and export operations are on the increase. In 2006, the company employed ten full-time workers, in addition to which it had sub-contracting operations with several local companies.

The manufacture and sale of high-quality fire and rescue products and services related to occupational health and safety are the basis of Peltaco Oy's operations. Peltaco Oy is continually developing new solutions for its clients, and currently its selection includes approximately twenty original products. In 2000, the company launched its as-yet largest product development project, the objective of which was to develop the Sami Response oil spill control system for use on land. The system has attracted both national and international interest during the development phase, and the company has initiated investigations on export operations to Sweden and Germany . The company's products are currently exported to countries including Sweden , Germany , and Great Britain.

The objective of Peltaco Oy is to provide expert and comprehensive services to its clients. Good customer relations have provided an excellent basis for the design, planning, and manufacture of new safety products. The principal customers of the company include regional fire departments, the city of Kuopio , the Emergency Services College , extinguisher maintenance companies, and industrial plants (e.g. Kemira Phosphates and M-Real).

The company's membership of the Association of Finnish Suppliers of Labour Safety Equipment (STYL), Association of Fire-fighting Enterprises in Finland (SPLY), and Association of Extinguisher Maintenance Companies (SHLL) supports the flow of information and provides opportunities to contribute to the development of their products and services. The associations work in cooperation with local and national authorities in order to develop safety, training, and communication. Peltaco Oy has been authorized by TUKES (Safety Technology Authority) to conduct maintenance and inspection work on hand extinguishers.
